| Anti-Bullying Policy |
Our Policy:
All students and staff at Epping Boys’ High School have a right to be safe from both physical and emotional harm and harassment and/or vilification.
Our school has a very pleasant and harmonious atmosphere and it is the responsibility of everyone to ensure that the rights of themselves and others are not impinged upon. |
What is bullying?
Bullying is where an individual or individuals go out of their way to hurt, threaten, harass, frighten someone or make them feel uncomfortable over a period of time.
|
Bullying can be:
- Verbal: Threats, name calling, sniggering, laughter, humiliation, spreading rumours, abuse and making embarrassing comments
- Physical: Hitting, tripping, pushing, kicking
Social: Ignoring, isolating, excluding and rejecting
- Emotional: Stalking, cruel mimicry, teasing, body gestures, threatening stares, and holding or damaging other people’s property.

Why do people bully?
Bullies are not special or tough. They may be jealous of other people, unhappy with themselves, insecure, bullied at home, afraid of being unpopular, unable to show their feelings. Bullies often try to make it seem that the bullying is the victim’s own fault.
This is NEVER true.
|
At Epping Boys' High School there are many people who can help you.
Silence and secrecy protects the bully.
Do you think yourself a victim? - YOU DESERVE BETTER than that.
You have the right to put a stop to this.
|
If you are being bullied you should:
- Talk to your friends and family about what is happening.
- Talk to your Year Adviser, School Counsellor or Welfare Head Teacher.
- Complete a Bullying Notification Form by clicking <here>, or from the First Aid window at the office or the school library. Place the form into an envelope and write the name of your Year Adviser on the outside of the envelope. Place the envelope in the Notification Box.

- Remain calm in stressful situations. Try not to react, concentrate on breathing slowly.
- Resist manipulation and threats; make your feelings and intentions clear.
- Enlist support from bystanders; keep near adults or friends.
- Boost your own self-esteem; extend your skills in areas that you like so that you feel better about yourself.
- Learn self-awareness; change your behaviour if necessary; avoid aggressive or passive
behaviour.
- Walk tall and confidently, even if you are scared.
|
