Computer Usage Policy

The school provides students with filtered access to Internet and Intranet resources using accounts provided by the DET. On occasions students may still encounter inappropriate material.  The onus is on each student to act responsibly and abide by the rules set out below. 

It is mandatory for a student, upon enrolment, to read and sign an agreement to adhere to the following rules and conditions.  This agreement is countersigned by parents.

Students will:

  • Use the Internet resources wisely as an educational tool.
  • Acknowledge the source of all information obtained from the Internet, respecting copyright laws.
  • Use appropriate language when communicating with others.
  • Report inappropriate use of systems including the Internet to a teacher.
  • Notify teachers of inappropriate sites that have not been filtered out.
  • Store only school work in personal work space.
  • Report any system problems immediately.
  • Use laptops in accordance with Laptop User Charter.

Students will not:

  • Modify or disable computer system settings.
  • Install or attempt to install applications on school computers
  • Attempt to disable or bypass network security systems.
  • Use another student's account or interfere with their work.
  • Delete files from a school computer system.
  • Send messages that disclose personal information or invade the privacy of others.
  • Distribute inappropriate material (eg material that promotes violence, or illegal activity, racism, sexism or pornography, copyright protected applications and movies).
  • Attempt to purchase goods and services using credit cards.
  • Copy, without acknowledgement, work from the Internet.
  • Use school computers for playing games
  • Interfere in any way with the laptops of other students.
