Staff and Student Complaints

This school is committed to a policy of equal employment opportunity for all staff and equal educational opportunity for all students.

We recognise that any form of harassment and/or discrimination can deny equality of opportunity and result in an offensive and stressful work and learning environment for those who are subject to it.

Staff should be aware of the fact that both state and commonwealth legislation exists which protects the individual from sex-based race-based discrimination and that such acts are unacceptable to the school community.

Formal complaints should be directed to the School Grievance Office, the Anti-Racism Contact Officer, Deputy Principal or Principal.

Parental Complaints

Parents have a right to information and recourse to complaint.  Efficient and timely communication may alleviate complaints.  Schools and teachers sometimes act inappropriately and unwisely, and parents must be free to approach schools respectfully and confidently with complaints.

Teachers have the right to expect:

respect for their professional training and experience;

  • respect for their integrity;
  • full information as to the nature of complaints registered;
  • reasonable defence against unfounded complaint or abuse.

Complaints will be directed in the first instance to the appropriate person:

      • Subject-based complaints                             -  to the appropriate head teacher
      • Welfare and general learning problems        -  to the Year Adviser and/or Head Teacher Welfare
      • Broad school issues                                       -  to the Deputy Principal
      • Serious concerns and/or those not resolved -  to the Principal
Where legal implications exist (child sex assault, improper behaviour of a sexual nature and other illegal activities) the appropriate actions will be taken.
