Rugby is flourishing at Epping Boys' High School. Open grade numbers are again around 70 with a very strong culture. Each week there is a first grade newsletter with details of recent and upcoming matches. This is also on this website under Curriculum / Sport. The 1st grade side is undefeated this year after 13 matches. The highlight was defeating Randwick 41-10 in Round 3 of the Zone Competition. This was the first time Epping had beaten Randwick since 2000. |

Epping win four zone rugby premierships Epping won the Under 14s, 3rd Grade, 2nd Grade and 1st Grade zone competitions on Wednesday 26 July. The Under 14s, coached by Mark Macaulay, won 19-7. 2nd Grade, coached by David Manuell, were joint premiers, final score being a 3-3 draw, with Macquarie 1sts. 1st Grade won 26-9 against Normanhurst. The 1st Grade team, coached by Bruce Jacob, Peter Waring and Liam Bartells, won Epping's first 1st Grade premiership since 1999. Randwick and Homebush have dominated since 1999. Tries were scored by David Sutton, Evan Steinle-Davies, Toby Newton-McGee and Scott Miller with David Sutton kicking three conversions. Normanhurst lead 6-5 at half-time, but Epping finished strongly, scoring four tries to nil. Epping were undefeated and most would agree deserved the title. They play their round 4 game of the Waratah Shield at 2.30 pm Friday 4 August at Keirle Park, Manly. Support would be most welcome. I'd like to thank the huge support for our zone finals from the school students, staff, parents and old boys. |
