Rugby News

Rugby continues to flourish at Epping Boys' High School with nearly 200 boys playing rugby in 2008.  there are three open grades with approximately 70 players, two U15 teams, one U14 team and two U13 teams.

First Grade, coached in 2008 by Bruce Jacob and Levi Broughton-Rouse, again look strong.  They have started the season well and are undefeated after six games.  They have won the last two zone competitions in 2006 and 2007, and in 2007 made the quarter finals of the Robson/Waratah Shield.

Each week there is a first grade Rugby Newsletter with details and results of past matches and the draw for future matches and upcoming events.

Overseas Tours – 7 in Past Decade

We believe no other school can match the program for overseas rugby tours that Epping Boys' High School experiences.  Over the past ten years, Epping Boys' High School has been on seven overseas rugby tours.  These have been:

  • 1997 – Open Grade to Canada/USA
  • 1998 – U14 and U15 to New Zealand
  • 2003 – U15 and Open Grade to Canada/USA
  • 2005 – U15 to New Zealand
  • 2006 – Open Grade to Canada/USA
  • 2007 – U15 to Hong Kong
  • 2008 – U14 to New Zealand

As well, in 2009, two open grade rugby teams will tour Canada/USA.

Strategic Plan – 2009 – 2015

In the past some of the tours have been ad hoc.  There is now realisation that we need a strategic plan.

We believe a tour to Canada/USA should occur every three years and an U15 tour to New Zealand every two years.  This program would enable every boy the opportunity to have two different tours during their Epping Boys' High School experience.
