The Open High School

The Open High School offers Beginners, Continuers and Extension courses in French, German, Indonesian, Malay, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Modern Greek, Russian and Spanish.  the following criteria applies:

Either

  • the language that the student wishes to study is their family background language and is either not available at the Saturday School of Community Languages or the student is not able to attend classes on Saturdays.  (A statement must be attached to the enrolment form explaining the reason.)

Or

  • The study of the desired language is important to the student's future career plans.  (A statement must be attached to the enrolment form with details of these plans.)

For a student to be recommended by the Principal for study at the Open High School, several important criteria must be met:

  • The student must meet the criteria for eligibility to study at the Open High School.
  • The student falls within the quota of new students allowed to study at the Open High School in any one year.  The maximum is six students.
  • The student must have shown by his efforts in Year 10 that he is highly motivated to learn, is able to work independently and meets all class and homework commitments as required.
  • The student has approached a member of staff who is willing to be his school-based supervisor over the two years of study.

If all the criteria are deemed met by the Principal, an application is lodged in Term 4.  Students must note that there is a course fee for the two years and that students are expected to purchase all relevant textbooks that are not provided by the Open High School.

NB:  Late requests for application to study at the Open High School (made after Term 4) are generally not considered unless there are mitigating circumstances in which case a letter should be sent to the Principal of Epping Boys' High School and the application may then be considered.
