English as a Second Language (ESL)

Epping Boys' High School is a culturally diverse school comprising students from fifty different language backgrounds.  The ESL Department, which operates across the school from Years 7 to 12, has been established to ensure that students from language backgrounds other than English can achieve optimum facility in English.

ESL in Years 7-10

Specific ESL classes, following the school's curriculum content and programs, are available in Years 7-10 and are integrated into the overall school English program and its assessment schedule.  These classes are designed to ensure that students can increase their confidence and ability in the use of English for both academic and social purposes.

ESL in the Senior School

In Years 11 and 12, students who have been studying in English for less than five years are able to choose the Board of Studies English ESL Course which has been designed to maximise HSC achievement for ESL students.  Past English ESL Course students have gained excellent results in this course.

International Students

The ESL Department and the school community at Epping Boys' High School have a long history of welcoming and assisting students who are studying away from their home country.  Studying at Epping Boys' High School provides students with:

  • a significant development of their English language skills
  • experience of Australian culture and customs
  • an opportunity to form friendships across cultural and linguistic boundaries
  • the experience of involvement in an Australian school community.
