The new Stage 4 and Stage 5 English Syllabus stipulates as a compulsory component, the study of film.
"The teaching of English focuses on the continued development of a student's skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. These skills are fundamental to students' literacy in English. The syllabus requires the development of students' visual literacy through the development of skills in viewing and representing a diverse range of texts including tests in print, film and other technologies."
Students will be required to view and analyse various films as texts. This may mean students watching "M" rated films. Staff will choose appropriate film texts according to syllabus guidelines. This will reflect a professional approach dictated by the needs and progress of classes taught.
Parents must inform Mr Khurshed, Head Teacher English, if they object strongly to the viewing of "M" rated films as part of class study. Students who are not allowed to view films deemed inappropriate by parents will be required to complete alternate work outside the classroom. |
