Course Requirements for Year 9 (Stage 5)

In Year 9 students will be assessed on their performance in the skills of reading, writing, talking, listening, viewing and representing.

Students will be assessed across the year based on class assessment tasks.  Class work will also be assessed.  Reporting of achievement at the end of each semester will be both descriptive (focusing on the individual student's level of achievement and indicating those areas requiring improvement), as well as containing a numerical component.

Course coordinators will provide advanced notice of the dates and any amendments to the published assessment schedule.  Assessment will be based on the following tasks:

 

Semester 1

  • Assessment Task 1 - Writing
  • Assessment Task 2 - Viewing and Representing
  • Class mark (including homework and book presentation)

Half Yearly Report Mark:  50% assessment and 50% class work

  • Assessment Task 3 - Oral
  • Assessment Task 4 - Response to Texts
  • Class mark (including homework and book presentation)

Yearly Report Mark:  50% assessment and 50% class work

Attendance at Drama excursions / incursions are compulsory and form part of class assessment.

In the study of English, students must:

  • Regularly attend class and meet course experience requirements.

  • Bring all books and other equipment as specified by the teacher.

  • Attempt all homework and assignments and submit work promptly.

  • Maintain textbooks in good condition and return them promptly when required.

  • Work to the best of their ability and not hinder the learning opportunities of others.

 

Year 10 2007

Assessment will commence in Term 4, 2006 for all students who will be entering Year 10 in 2007.  All students will be required to complete this task in Term 4, 2006.

Please note that work submitted late will attract a penalty of 20% of the earned mark per day overdue.
