Information Processing and Technology

At Epping we have developed an integrated approach to implementing the IPT syllabus and have designed our topics and projects to make the course more interesting.

Course Description:  This course was rewritten in 2007 to make it more attractive to student. This course focuses on the study of Information Systems.  It looks at how information is managed using computing systems. Students are involved with studying existing information systems designing systems to manage information.  The course is a very practical course providing students with a range on information skills as they build Database System, Numerical Information Systems, Multimedia Systems and Communication Systems. Students use a range of software packages including the Microsoft Office Suite, Macromedia Studio, Paintshop Pro etc, to develop and implement information systems.  Students make extensive use of the Intranet and Internet resources that we have developed for the course.

As Universities make greater use of technology in all course areas, anyone considering going to university would benefit from this course as it provides students with the skills they require to find, managing, store, present and communicate information.

Suggested Prerequisites:   While there are no prerequisites for this course, the students that have undertaken the junior IST course in Years 9 and 10  will have a head start.  The area of focus in IPT will be significantly different however.
